If I were drawing this today, I’d have him using a netbook or iPad.

“The Most Overhyped Technologies of the Century”, an illustrated slideshow written by Jim Rapoza and drawn by me in vector style. (Update 2011: link is dead now.)

This show errs on the side of curmudgeonliness, I think, but it was really fun to draw abstract things like “social networking” as if they were has-beens appearing on an awards show.

10 More Stupid Things Smart IT People Still Do, an eWEEK slideshow written by Debra Donston and illustrated by me, ca. 2007. I liked working in this vector style.

“How Not to Get Ahead in IT“, an illustrated slideshow for eWEEK written by Deb Donston and illustrated by me.

This was another pen-and-ink + photo background slideshow, and I think it came out pretty well. The idea was to evoke those days when people would tape up cartoons to their office walls (do people do that anymore?)

Technical notes: the “wall” is actually a manila file folder with two pieces of crumpled paper taped to it, tweaked on the computer to take out the color. The cat5 cable and cd packaging are from another couple of photos.

“The 13 Scariest Things in IT“, an illustrated slideshow written by Mike Vizard and illustrated by me.

This was the first (circa 2006?) of a few Halloween-themed IT slideshows I did. It’s always fun to draw monster-y things. I bet these days most of the slides would be related to “the cloud” or privacy issues.

“The Most Dangerous New Technologies” an illustrated slideshow written by Jim Rapoza and illustrated by me in my vector art style. (Update 2011: link is dead.)

This is a few years old now, but I think most of it is still applicable (like the slide on car computer systems failures.)

“The Five Stages of IT Grief“, an eWEEK slideshow written by Mike Vizard and illustrated by me.

I think this was another show on a short deadline, so I tried out a woodcut-like approach.

“The Worst Cube-Dwelling Offenses“, an eWEEK slideshow written by Deb Perelman and illustrated by me.

I had to turn around many of these slideshows quickly, and using a limited color palette was one of the techniques I used to speed things along. The palette I chose now strikes me as a little weird and jarring, but that’s probably appropriate for the subject matter.

“10 New Rules of Techie Etiquette“, an eWEEK slideshow written by Eric Lundquist.

Drawn with a Kuritake brush pen, which used to be my go-to tool when I needed to get the art done in a hurry. I also used it on the last series of Smithson comics.
