I had a grand day out on Saturday which included a trip to the paper counter at Pearl Art Supply, so here’s a new watercolor sketch to kick the tires. It’s Winsor & Newton hot-pressed 140lb., which may be my new fave paper. Shown here is Shaenon Garrity’s Helen Narbon, who has apparently forgotten that she left a Hot Pocket in her fusion-powered microwave oven. Well, either Dave or Artie will clean up the mess.

And here’s an earlier attempt at Helen, painted in gouache.
(It would take me too long to do 40 Helens, sorry …)
Here’s the finished version of the green guy painting. Gouache on cardstock, cut-out, approx. 4″ x 4″

My real interest was in trying to paint the weird lizard skin on our green guy … I sort of pooped out when I got to what he was looking at; hence the perfunctory kick-line girl.
And here’s a cute scan of the lil’ green guy on my hand. Someday, I must get a decent digital camera for this kind of thing.

I’m running behind on the sketchblog this week, but here’s a peek at a work in progress. It’s a detail (reproduced larger than actual size here) of another small gouache painting.
(Feels sort of Heavy Metal-ish – I think it’s from reading all those “Were 1970’s Comic Books Any Good?” threads that have been floating around lately.)

This … cute … little guy was for a Xmas card I made for my wife, which read “GOOD FOR ONE WACOM TABLET.” She finally decided on a small Graphire, which arrived a few weeks ago. It’s a sleek, silvery sports car to my circa-2000 model Intuos tablet’s Beige Bomber. Apple really has done wonders for computer design.
The painting is gouache on cardstock, cutout, maybe 3″ tall.
It’s time for another painted cutout! Gaze at the chilly future that awaits all comic book readers … or at least ones with comically oversized heads and an interest in robotics and antigravity.

Presumably that’s not coffee he’s drinking either, but motor oil or some such.
I painted this last week for my brother’s birthday. No, I don’t know what I was thinking, except that he lives in the Midwest and there is some corn around there somewhere. Alan, if you’re reading, happy (belated) birthday!

It’s another cutout painting – made on a card that’s about 4″ x 6″ and then cut out. Here you can see my hand holding it against the scanner glass:
