Here’s a detail of the painting currently on my desk. The angle is a bit wonky due to my camera’s wide-angle lens. At least I hope my perspective is better than that. Oh crap.

The “Out of Sequence” comics art exhibit (previously on display at the Krannert Museum in Champaign, IL and The Laboratory of Art and Ideas at Belmar in Belmar, CO) will appear in a third venue: the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College in Keene, NH. The new showing will be up from October 23 to December 6, 2009.
The exhibit features a Smithson strip which I drew, and lots of great art from artists including Shaenon Garrity, Nicholas Gurewitch, Hope Larson, Jenn Manley Lee, and Drew Weing, among others. It should be a terrific show, and I’m looking forward to seeing it in person now that it’s going to be in my neck of the woods.

My comic strip for the local paper, May 31, 1987. If I remember correctly, they paid me $5 for each editorial cartoon and ran the strip as a sort of bonus in lieu of pay. I would walk the two blocks to the storefront newspaper office and drop off the art. Inside I got my first glimpses of Mac (Classic) desktops, the paste-up room with those hot wax adhesive dispensers, 10″ floppy discs, and a photo darkroom. When I left each time I would catch a small, fleet dinosaur and ride that back home. Then we would eat it.
